MICHAEL J. SMANSKI
Associate Professor
Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics
PhD, Microbiology, University of Wisconsin Madison, 2011
Research Interests
Natural product discovery, genome mining, genetic systems engineering.
Bio
In his work, Mike Smanski seeks to develop new tools and strategies to access the biosynthetic potential of different organisms as a resource for chemical diversity and to engineer the relevant metabolic pathways for increased production. The Smanski lab is leveraging the latest DNA synthesis and assembly technologies to uncover new enzymatic reactions and explore novel methods for evolving biosynthetic pathways in the lab.
