Director, Biotechnology Resource Center

Tom is the Director of the Biotechnology Resource Center and the Assistant Director of the BioTechnology Institute. One of the first ever graduates of the MicE program, he brings thirty years of experience in  bioprocess development, scale-up, manufacturing,  and business development. Most recently, he was the Director of Biopharmaceuticals Development at Kolltan Pharmaceuticals Inc. in New Haven, Connecticut.

Pilot Plant Manager

Marcus took on BRC’s Pilot Plant Manager position in 2023 and is responsible for all scheduling, operations and continuous improvement initiatives. He has extensive experience in industrial microbiology and biotechnology, from bench to commercial scale. Prior to joining the BRC, he held the position as Biologicals Manufacturing Technology Director at Cargill within the Cargill Health Technologies business, where he was working with different internal teams, facilities, CDMOs and customers globally. During this time, he was planning and overseeing new product development from R&D to prototype production at multiple cubic meter scale. Before joining Cargill, Marcus was the Director of Manufacturing and Process Development at Pendulum Therapeutics, a start-up company in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he was an integral part of growing the company from a bench in an incubator space to an established company with multiple products on the market. Marcus is a Biochemist by training and holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and a scholar at Stanford University.
