Claudia Schmidt-Dannert became director of the BioTechnology Institute in 2022. She is a Distinguished McKnight University Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics at the University of Minnesota. She has a background in conducting research in fundamental areas of biotechnology but also in the engineering space, and her research spans from molecules to systems. As director, she leads the institute with a focus on increasing its role within the burgeoning bioeconomy, increasing the visibility of BTI and continuing to strengthen relationships with industry partners.
